Food and Dining Bunker

The Food and Dining Bunker (referred to in-game simply as the Food Bunker) is a bunker located in the north-western part of the Island. This bunker was a food storage and farming facility for the community of Holosprings, featuring vast freezers and a large hydroponic farm. This bunker also offered catering amenities, including a vast banquet hall ostensibly for special occasions. Its GPS location can be found on a laptop at Maintenance Bunker A, which also contains the Maintenance Keycard required to gain access.

Layout[]

The entrance is located inside a cave through a hatch. Initially, the player only has access to a small cold storage area. This area contains a wide variety of food items, ranging from Raw Meat to Steak Bites to Crunchie Wunchies can be found here. A Maintenance Keycard is required to unlock a set of double doors in order to progress further into the bunker.

Beyond the locked double doors is a hydroponics facility full of unobtainable lettuce and several harvestable blueberry bushes. On the wall, several crossbow bolts mark the location of the crossbow found on the floor, next to a dead body. The hydroponics facilities are inhabited by several mutants, including Fingers and Mutant Babies.

Further into the bunker, connected to a flooded hallway, the player can find a security room where they can obtain the VIP Keycard sitting on the desk in the center. On the same desk, there's a computer with an article open that features Eric LeBlanc and a headline that describes the events of The Forest. On the wall, there are security cameras playing a looped recording of the guests being turned into mutants in the dining hall. To the desk on the right, the player can find a story paper pickup of an email. A nearby laptop will unlock the GPS location of the Residential Bunker.

Returning to the flooded hallway and using the VIP Keycard on the locked doors allows the player access to the large dining hall. Upon entering, the player will see Jianyu Zhang with a team of operatives equipped with diving apparatus, standing by a large broken window leading to an underground lake. As the player sneaks to their position, the operatives are unexpectedly dragged one by one into the water below, leaving only Jianyu stumbling away from the window in horror. As the player steps closer, Barbara and Edward Puffton, now mutated into a pair of exceptionally tough Puffies, emerge from the lake. Jianyu runs away and plunges into the lake, arrogantly saluting the player before diving, leaving them to fight off the mutants.

The banquet hall is in complete disarray, littered with rotten food, gore and only inhabited by a handful of live Puffies stumbling around. At the center of the hall, there is a large private table with mutated guests dead in their seats. Several of the seats have name placards for people within the closed circle of Edward Puffton. The placards for Edward and Barbara Puffton can be taken as collectibles. Every table has a countdown clock that seems to have long since hit zero, with their use or meaning remaining speculative at best.

The water beyond the broken glass can be traversed with the rebreather, leading to an exit tunnel inhabited by some Puffies and Mutant Babies.
